Description

Like most of my photos, this also - the Large Magellanic Cloud - one of the jewels of the southern sky should receive an appropriate and comprehensive description, but not this time. It has already been done in an incredibly interesting way by my fellow companion to Namibia, Mateusz Kalisz.

This photo was even featured in his video material, which makes me extremely proud ;) As Mateusz mentioned in his video, this galaxy is indeed clearly visible to the naked eye from the southern hemisphere. It stretches for about 7 degrees and, together with the Small Magellanic Cloud, forms a beautiful pair. Of course, it's important to remember that the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), as well as the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), despite their names, are actually galaxies. The LMC is a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way and is located at a distance of only about 163,000 light-years from our Solar System.

I was somewhat surprised by the result I achieved after just under 3.5 hours of total exposure. It turned out that the dust in which this galaxy is "immersed" showed up quite well. I somewhat regret not doing the planned session with an h-alpha filter (EOS Clip 12 nm for Canon), but there's always next time ;)

More about LMC here. I highly recommend it: https://youtu.be/XT0kGv_mbB8?si=wzUuf1QNlV0rTyIc=MsoNormal
